Jordan White looks to defend NABF title against former world title challenger Johnathan Oquendo
(Sat, May-18, 2024)— Reigning NABF Jr. lightweight champion Jordan “Short Dog” White (16-1,12ko), seeks to make his first title defense taking on former world title contender Johnathan Oquendo (31-8,19ko), (of Puerto Rico) in a scheduled [10-round] main-event at the Entertainment & Sports Arena, in Washington, D.C.
White, aka “Short Dog” is currently riding a 12-fight win streak, In his most recent outing White outclassed a durable opponent in Jose Garcia, to cruise to a [10-round] unanimous decision victory in November of 2023. Three months prior, White battled then undefeated Eridson Garcia (17-0,12ko), in a [10-round] bout for Garcia’s NABF Jr.Lightweight title, in the main-event headliner televised on “ShoBox the New Generation”. In the opening minutes of round-one White would land a annihilating left-hook on Garcia, knocking him out cold and going on to capture the NABF Jr. lightweight title. For the 26yr old White, a victory over Oquendo would presumably help ascend him into world title contender status.
Jonathan Oquendo, is a rugged former world title challenger with more than 200 rounds of ring experience under his belt. Over his four most recent bouts, the Puerto Rican native has faced world level opposition, notably having challenged former World Champion Jamel Herring for the WBO World title in 2020, prior to that Oquendo would go the distance with now WBA Jr. lightweight World Champion Lamont Roach Jr. Oquendo, is coming off an 1 1/2 lay-off, but still looks to prove himself as a world class contender.
In the co-featured bout of the evening rising undefeated Super bantamweight prospect Dwayne “Sugar Wayne” Holmes jr (7-0, 5ko), will take on Juan Martinez,(4-3-2, 1ko), in a scheduled [8-round] bout. In his most recent bout Holmes, defeated Ronald Ellis (6-1) by [5th round] TKO to capture the ABF Super bantamweight regional title.
