Mayer to challenge Ryan for WBO World Championship.

(Friday, Sept-27, 2024)— “Friends turn foes” as Mikaela Mayer (19-2, 5ko), challenges U.K’s Sandy Ryan (7-1-1 , 3ko), for Ryan’s WBO welterweight World Championship in a [10-Round] main-event, taking place at Madison Square Garden Theatre.

Mayer, who is looking to rebound after suffering a split-decision loss to reigning IBF welterweight World Champion Natasha Jonas (15-2-1, 9ko), jumps right back into another world title opportunity against the champion Ryan. This will make Mayer’s second consecutive world title attempt since moving up to the welterweight division.

Since winning the WBO world title in 2023, defeating Marie Pier Houle (10-1-2, 3ko), Ryan has went (1W-0L-1D) in her last two bouts, fighting to a split decision draw in a world title unification bout against Jessica McCaskill (12-4-1, 5ko), then successfully defending her title against Terri Harper (14-2-2, 6ko), winning a [4th-Round] Technical decision.

In the co-featured bout of the evening 22yr old, undefeated super welterweight contender Xander Zayas (19-0, 12ko),(Puerto Rico), takes on Damian Sosa (25-2, 12ko),(Mexico), in a scheduled [10-Round] bout.

Opening the televised portion of the card will be WBC Silver featherweight weight champion Sulaiman Sagawa (17-4-1, 6ko),(Uganda), putting his title on the line against rising world contender Bruce “Shu Shu” Carrington( 12-0, 8ko), (New York), in a scheduled [10-Round] bout.
