Former Undisputed super lightweight champion Josh Taylor set to clash with Teofimo Lopez in NYC.

Undefeated Scottish World Champion, Josh Taylor (19-0, 13KO), will make his MSG debut June 10th, as he prepares to defend his WBO World Championship against Brooklyn’s own Teofimo Lopez (18-1,13KO), former undisputed lightweight champion, at The Theatre at Madison Square Garden.

Taking on Lopez will be the first fight for the champion Josh Taylor in over a year. Teofimo Lopez is a opponent that brings speed and undeniable don’t blink knockout power to the ring, but has been criticized behind his previous two performances, after his sole defeat in his pro career to George Kambosos, where he lost his undisputed titles, then battled in a hard fought victory over Sandor Martin, where he seemed uncertain of his skillset.

Taylor, beat a undefeated Jose Carlos Ramirez, to become the first undisputed british world champion in the four belt era, defended the belts against Jack Caterall in a undisputed title defense, but has since relinquished three of the four world titles, retaining just the WBO world championship.

A fight between Taylor and Lopez had been brewing for a few years. The 25yr old Lopez and his trainer/ father would adamantly call out Josh Taylor, before Lopez suffered his first career loss and having trouble making the 135lbs weight limit forced him to move up to super lightweight, where he defeated Sandor Martin, to become the #1 contender for the WBO World Championship.
