Unified champion Canelo Alverez set to defend against Berlanga

(Saturday , September-14, 2024)— Pound-4-pound superstar Canelo Alvarez (61-2-2, 39ko), will meet undefeated WBA (No.1) ranked contender Edgar Berlanga (22-0, 17ko), in a scheduled [12-Round] Mexico versus Puerto Rico, super-middleweight attraction for the WBA, WBC & WBO World titles, taking place at the T-Mobile Arena, in Las Vegas.

Alvarez, (34), is coming off a unanimous decision victory against a powerful puncher in Jaime Munguia (43-1, 34ko), in May of this year.

Shortly after the announcement that he would be taking on Berlanga instead of his IBF mandatory William Scull (22-0, 9ko), the former undisputed super-middleweight champion Alvarez, would be subsequently stripped of his IBF title. Nevertheless, the champion looks to continue to fight for the pride of his native country of Mexico, fighting on Mexican independence weekend.

Berlanga, (25), comes off a knockout victory over Irelands Padraig McCroy (18-1, 9ko), in early February of 2024. For Berlanga, this would be his first attempt at a world title. A victory over an accomplished player in the game such as Alvarez would mean a lot for Berlanga’s legacy, hoping to have his name join the elite company of Puerto Rican greats such as Felix “Tito” Trinidad & Miguel Cotto.
