Shields floors Joanisse three times to win heavyweight title.

(July-27-2024)— Claressa Shields, wins the WBC heavyweight World Championship and (vacant) WBO Light heavyweight title after stopping Champion Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse by [second-round] TKO.

From the opening bell it was evident that Lepage-Joanisse was out matched by the challenger. Shields looked to assert her dominance early in the fight, flooring the champion three-times in the first two-rounds before the corner of Lepage-Joanisse stepped in to call a halt to the fight, deciding that they had seen enough punishment.

With the victory Shields, became just the second fighter in the history of the sport to move up from middleweight to heavyweight to capturing a world title in both divisions, the only other fighter to do such was former unified champion Roy Jones Jr.

Shields now improves to (15-0, 3ko).
