Haney looks to defend WBC title against amateur foe Garcia April 20th in Brooklyn.
(April-20, 2024)— Former Undisputed Lightweight champion Devin Haney (31-0, 15ko), will look to defend his world title against a familiar opponent, taking on Ryan Garcia (24-1, 20ko), with the WBC Super lightweight Championship on the line, in a scheduled [12-round] contest taking place at the Barclays Center, in Brooklyn, New York.
The two-fighters have much history between one another, as they have previously shared the ring a total of six times dating back to the amateurs, with each fighter splitting three-victories a piece over one another.
Haney (25), is one of the most premier pound-for-pound talents in boxing to date. Over his last seven bouts, all seven have either been world championship fights, or have been against former world title holders. Haney, has notable victories over fighters such as George Kambosos Jr, defeating the native Aussie to become the youngest undisputed champion in boxing history. He then went on to defeat a presumed future first ballot Hall-of-famer Vasyl Lomachenko, and in his most recent campaign moved up in weight to defeat Regis Prograis for the WBC Super Lightweight title.
However, 25yr old, Garcia, presents a tough challenge for Haney, presumably looking to capitalize on his previous experience and familiarity versus the champion. This bout will mark the seventh meeting between the two fighters, as both are beginning to enter the prime stages of their professional careers. In twenty-four victories for Garcia, twenty have come by way of knockout, with his sole career loss coming against undefeated superstar Gervonta Davis, in April, 2023. Since then Garcia has rebounded defeating Oscar Duarte(26-2, 21ko) via KO. Garcia, will look to capture his first world title against his rivaled nemesis Haney, on April, 20th.
This fight will be promoted by Golden Boy Promotion and will be available to purchase on DAZN PPV.
